The paradoxes of Aaron Hernandez are well-chronicled.

Hernandez was a star Patriots tight end who earned a $40 million contract. He was also a convicted killer. He died by suicide in prison just a little over five years after he caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

We talk with WBUR reporters Todd Wallack and Beth Healy, who for years have been working to unravel the mysteries enshrouding Hernandez' final days. Newly unearthed phone recordings offer some clues.

This segment aired on March 28, 2023.
